Update, March 2005
North Dakota Chapter of The American Academy of Pediatrics

The North Dakota chapter of the AAP has 71 paid members.  Our newsletter “The North Dakota Pediatrician” is published 4 times a year and posted on our web site http://www.ndaap.org .

We have a very active pediatric club at the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences.  We received a $350 grant to support this effort from the AAP. Several students attend our meetings. Community Pediatrician’s periodically address the club with their experiences and reasons they choose pediatrics as a career.

We have three practices actively participating in PROS

North Dakota currently screens newborns for 39 disorders/conditions at a cost of $36 This includes screening for MCAD disorders, hemoglobinopathies, and we will start screening for cystic fibrosis in July,2005 using a2 tier system.

The entire state is universally screening newborns for hearing loss.  We are currently working on a tracking system.

NDAAP is involved in early child care, from our web site licensed daycare anywhere in the state can be found. Currently, over 76% of children in North Dakota under the age of 6 have both parents in the work force. The National Average is 58%. A pediatrician from each quadrant of the state serves as an advisor to the Child Care Consultants in the state. The NDAAP will be sending a member to the Childcare Contact Conference in Orlando, Florida, April 16-17, 2005.
